Coronavirus: Husband’s plea after wife’s battle with Covid-19 in Wexham Park Hospital

AN INSPIRING music teacher is hoping to raise £15,000 for Wexham Park Hospital, who looked after his wife during her battle with Covid-19.

Upton House School in Windsor hopes to donate the money to the local NHS charity, Frimley Health Charity- as a thank you for staff’s incredible work during the pandemic.

Music teacher Craig McEvoy wanted to take part in the fundraiser after his wife became ill with coronavirus.

She had to be treated in hospital.

As such, he wrote a song called ‘Brand-New Start’, to reflect upon and remember what ‘families and individuals have gone through during the COVID-19 pandemic’.

He said: “The song is to reflect upon and remember what we as a country, as families and as individuals have gone through during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“It expresses our desire to leave difficult times behind us and to look forward to the promise of a brighter future without restrictions.”

The song is a collaboration between staff and pupils, with children and adults singing and playing instruments.

While writing the song, Craig found the lyrics took on a deeper meaning and his wife’s bout with the virus gave him “even greater inspiration to complete it”.

The money raised hopes to improve the wellbeing services and facilities in the children’s ward at Wexham Park Hospital in Slough.

The money will also support the children of front-line workers who have been significantly affected by their parents’ dedication to the NHS during the pandemic.

It will fund improvements to the onsite nursery, educational resources, and a wellbeing hub.

Craig is hoping that the song will “encourage children to talk about their emotions and the experiences they have had throughout the pandemic”.
