Abridged Opera Announces its 11th Season Production of Fledermaus: A Champagne Masquerade

Windsor, ON — Abridged Opera is delighted to celebrate its 11th Season with a sparkling new production of Johann Strauss II’s beloved operetta Fledermaus (The Bat). This timeless classic of comedy, champagne, and mistaken identities will be presented in collaboration with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra under the baton of Maestro Geoffrey Larson.

Known as Strauss’s most effervescent work, Die Fledermaus combines soaring melodies, witty dialogue, and dazzling dance rhythms in an evening that is both glamorous and hilarious. Abridged Opera’s fully staged production promises to capture the operetta’s Viennese charm while infusing it with the vitality and artistry of Windsor’s own creative community.

This production also honors the late Maestro Robert Franz, who championed the idea of presenting Fledermaus and whose request inspired Abridged Opera to bring it to life.

All-Southwestern Ontario Cast

In keeping with Abridged Opera’s commitment to nurturing and showcasing local talent, this production features an all-Southwestern Ontario cast of singers and local director, Erin Armstrong. Audiences will have the unique opportunity to see professional artists from their own region shine in one of the most joyful works of the operatic canon.

A Chorus of Community Voices

Adding to the celebratory spirit, Fledermaus will also include a Community Chorus, bringing together singers of all ages and backgrounds to share the stage. This collaboration not only enriches the performance but also reflects Abridged Opera’s mission to make operetta accessible and meaningful to the community it serves.

A Jubilant Partnership

The partnership with the Windsor Symphony Orchestra ensures that Strauss’s effervescent score will be performed with brilliance and style, filling The Capitol Theatre with waltzes, polkas, and irresistible melodies that have made Fledermaus a global favorite for nearly 150 years. With Maestro Geoffrey Larson leading the orchestra, audiences can expect both musical finesse and festive flair.

Join the Celebration

From its riotous comedy to its unforgettable music, Fledermaus is the perfect way to toast Abridged Opera’s 11th Season. This performance promises laughter, sparkle, and a night to remember for both opera aficionados and first-time attendees.
