Tee It Up for Literacy – How you will make a Difference

Be part of a meaningful day on the green to help children with dyslexia receive the free, life-changing support they need.

Every child deserves the chance to discover the joy of reading. Tee It Up for Literacy is a charity golf tournament that supports the Windsor-Essex Literacy Development Centre (WLDC)  a local organization dedicated to empowering children with dyslexia. By sponsoring this event, you help create a brighter future for kids in our community.

Our Mission: Helping Children with Dyslexia

WLDC’s mission is to ensure that every child with dyslexia in Windsor-Essex can access the support they need to read and succeed. We provide free one-on-one tutoring to primary school-aged children with dyslexia using the proven Orton-Gillingham approach. Dyslexia is a specific learning disability that does not reflect low intelligence – many bright children will never learn to read at their full potential without specialized intervention. Our goal is to bridge that gap by giving these learners the individualized help they require to thrive.

Free, Life-Changing Support for Kids

At WLDC, children receive life-changing educational support at absolutely no cost to their families. Each child works one-on-one with a trained tutor in hour-long sessions twice a week after school, following a structured, multisensory curriculum tailored to their needs. We use the renowned Orton-Gillingham method  a language-based, multisensory and structured approach proven to help children with dyslexia build reading skills. This intensive program can last 2–3 years, ensuring every student gets the time and practice needed to overcome their reading challenges. Along the way, children not only catch up academically but also develop a new sense of confidence. Our hope is to make each child’s life more positive and to help them feel much more confident in their abilities.

Impact on Our Community

Supporting literacy doesn’t just help individual students, it strengthens our entire community. When children overcome dyslexia, they are more likely to succeed in school, graduate, and contribute positively to society. Without help, reading difficulties can lead to major problems in school, in future employment, and even in day-to-day life – the effects of dyslexia reach well beyond the classroom. By intervening early and providing free expert help, we set children on a path to long-term success. Families in Windsor-Essex see their children thriving, schools have more confident learners, and our community gains young people who are prepared to achieve their potential.

By participating in or sponsoring Tee It Up for Literacy, you show a commitment to our community’s youth and education. You become a partner in our mission to create a more literate, inclusive, and successful Windsor-Essex. It’s a meaningful way for local businesses and individuals to give back, with an impact that will be felt for years to come as these children grow into educated and self-assured adults.
