A restaurant that’s been described as “glorious” by food critic Jay Rayner has announced when it will be opening in Caversham. In March 2022, owners of Clay’s Kitchen and Bar, Nandana and Sharat Syamala, told customers that the restaurant would be moving from Reading to a former pub in Caversham.
To help fund the move, Nandana and Sharat launched a crowdfunder, raising thousands of pounds to transform the old Baron of Cadogan pub into the new Clay’s Bar and Kitchen. The restaurant will officially open to the public on February 1, 2023 – 11 months after its relocation was announced.
Specialising in cuisine from Hyderabad, Clay’s menu will transport diners to the streets of India with flavours that Jay Rayner describes as “punchy”. Located at 22-24 Prospect Street, Caversham, Reading, the restaurant will open from 12pm to 11pm Tuesday to Saturday and 10am to 4pm on Sundays.
A lunch and dinner menu is available to customers and a breakfast and brunch menu will be released soon. Table bookings are available now, with customers able to book online.
Nandana from Clay’s Kitchen and Bar said: “Happy news. After being closed for almost half of 2022, we finally have a date for you. The bookings are open from the 1st of February.
“We will be open from noon with a new lunch menu, coffee, drink, and snacks. As promised, we will be doing two menus. The restaurant section will have the much-loved Clay’s menu.
“Apart from that, we are adding a small plate menu for the bar section. Breakfast and Brunch will follow shortly once we get the hang of the new place.
“We will be a new front-of-the-house team with almost all of them from Caversham. The cooking is still Sharat and me.
“We can’t wait to open the doors for you all, bu we are a bit battered with everything that has happened for the past few months, so please be gentle with us. We promise to give you the best we can. See you all soon.”
