A winter sky is a beautiful sight but when it is so cold outside, you can’t quite appreciate its full beauty. Leaves are falling, the sun is setting sooner and the outdoors is becoming more festive as we head into December.
One way of gazing at the night sky by avoiding the frosty chill outside is by dining in a glass igloo. One Berkshire restaurant has a fantastic alternative to indoor dining and it will make you feel festive at the same time.
Coppa Club in Sonning, a short drive from Reading, is a former Elizabethan coaching inn on a peaceful stretch of the River Thames. Not only does it have beautiful backdrops that you can enjoy but you can stay warm and dry while tucking into a meal.
You are given your own space in a bubble to share with friends of family and unbeatable views of the waterside. Coppa Club says there are four igloos “dotted across our lawn and a stone’s throw from the river” which gives people an intimate space to dine outside whatever the weather.
Are the igloos worth a visit?
Rated 4.2 stars on google, the Sonning restaurant has attracted some lovely reviews. Here’s what a few people had to say about the place and, of course, the igloos.
Erica Pinto said: “We had a lovely experience here, dinning in one of the igloos. So romantic! The igloo was cosy and warm, the service was great with the staff being super friendly and quick. The food was delicious, the crispy squid was so well done.
“The mains also good, steak very well made and tasty and the crab linguine great. The apple crumble is always a favourite, so comforting in winter. Be careful not to slip on the way to the igloo at night, it’s a tad dark. Overall a lovely evening, we were both very pleased.”
Euan Holmes added: “Excellent experience in the garden igloo! Warm and cosy on a dreadful night, with attentive service, and great food and drink. Not cheap, but likewise not expensive for what is top quality food. Recommended.”
Sophie Gibbons wrote: “We visited on a sunny Tuesday and booked an igloo by the river, it was absolutely perfect! The food was wonderful and the staff were friendly and attentive. Beautiful place to eat.”
It is recommended to book in advance if you want a special experience in one of the igloos – they are likely to be highly popular at this time of year. Whether you want breakfast, lunch or even a late night snack, there is plenty of food to choose from including grills, salads and sourdough pizzas.
